Top Flintshire club Eros (at -11) met Division 2’s Connah’s Quay for a mammoth battle, with Eros having to make 19 points to reach Connah’s Quay’s +8 handicap. First and second mixed drew 1:1 and victory went to Eros in third and fourth mixed by only a few points in each game. Emma Paton and Aarthy Aravind had a convincing win over Eros’s first women and with both men’s resulting in a draw the match ended 10:6 with the Challenge Cup going to Eros.
In the Plate, closely matched Rossett and Buckley met for the third time this season. At the end of the mixed doubles the match was neck and neck 4:4. Rossett’s Sue Lord, Nicola Smith, Emma Hilton and Jane Liddle took all four games in women’s and in the men’s Buckley’s Steve Eltham, Rob Bishop, Ben Betts and Callum Sant took all four games. At 8:8 the winners were decided on points. The Plate went to Buckley who beat Rossett by 20 points (278:258).
It’s been a fantastic tournament and all of the games through the Cup have been played in great spirit. Its good to be back and see badminton thriving again.
