Hawarden (Scr) took on Connah’s Quay (+8) in the semi final of the Challenge Cup and found making up the 8 points a tall order. On form Connah’s Quay took the match 11-5. CQ 1st WD Emma Paton and Aarthy Aravind were on fire but Hawarden men Jake Jones, Peter Walker, Ian Price and Rob Jones made sure of points on the scoresheet for Hawarden by winning both men’s doubles with ease.
In the other semi top teams Eros (-11) and Llanferres A (-11) enjoyed some long, high scoring games but Eros proved to be stronger. Lily and Liam Hird took Llanferres’s only mixed game of the night and Lily and Claire Halestrap won a close first women’s 17 and 19.
In the Plate semi finals Buckley (Scr) beat Prestatyn A (+3) 10-6. The games were closely fought as evidenced by Buckley being only 14 points ahead of Prestatyn at the end. In the other semi Rossett (-6) and Llanferres D (+9) had a great contest played in good spirit although Rossett started off nervously aware that they had to overcome a 15 point handicap. The match ended 11-5 but could have been different as Llanferres were a woman down so lost points.
Connah’s Quay meet Eros and Buckley meet Rossett in the Finals on Monday March 6th at Ruthin Leisure Centre with matches starting at 7:30 pm prompt.
